Romans Road: The Book of Romans
Paul sought to give a full statement of the universal gospel. Romans explains the righteousness that God requires which God provide through grace and is found only through faith in the death of Jesus Christ. By grace alone, in Christ alone, through faith alone. Romans in not the account of the life of Christ which Mathew, Mark, Luke and John document. Rather it is a theology of life in Christ.

EASTER: Things in this world are going down. Everything moves to a lower state. Dead things decompose. Not with Jesus! He’s going up. Psalm 16 and Peter’s sermon quoting of Psalm 16 record that God did not abandon His Son to the grave or allow His Son to see decay. Rather Jesus took His life back and God raised Him. Our response? He IS risen! Never to die again. Hallelujah!

David was the right man for the job not because he was the best sling shot shooter among all the armies ofIsrael. Certainly there was an Israeli soldier who had as good a shot as David. David was the man because he looked to God. David had a sling and a stone and courage. David didn’t have military training, an armor or size.
God has an uncanny way of taking what we are and what we are not and getting His job done. Any young person could have done this. But they didn’t. Any of David’s brothers could have done this, but they didn’t. Any lad could have done what David did, but not like this. Any young boy armed with confidence, optimism, over zealousness, self reliance, a sense of invincibility, and a degree of defiance can stun a big man with nothing more than a sling, a stone and a good aim.
The record of David and Goliath is written in the pages of the Bible not to teach us how to overcome obstacles or be courageous or ingenuity. The story of David and Goliath teaches us to trust in God, not in ourselves.
This is the historic event of the boy David and his unswerving eye upon the Lord, the God of the armies of Israel. Sure David had the skill he needed. But he knew, that what he had, he got from God. And so he was the man for the moment. He provides a timeless, universal, memorable, unique story of what trust in God does. David had the right stuff; so did others. But he took what he had and what he had not and looked to God and he prevailed. And the rest is history.
Many people today will see and the sky and thank goodness it’s a nice day. Believer however will say this is the day the Lord has made. Many people today will be pronounced cancer free and thank their medical team and rightly so. Believers, who have cancer, can thank their healing God, whether they are healed or not. Many people today will solve problems, face giants, overcome Goliath obstacles and thank themselves for all their courage, ingenuity experience and skill. Believers today can do the same things but will declare I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Same results, a world of difference.

David, as a youth, displayed the characteristics of being well rounded. He took on unlikely personality combinations.
1 Sam 16:18
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the LORD is with him.”
Here are some unlikely food combinations that actually taste good: Cheetos and Milk, Chocolate on Cheese Pizza, Peanut Butter and Pickle Sandwiches, Vanilla Ice Cream and Soy Sauce, Popcorn with Ketchup.
How about us? Are we willing to expand our horizons, branch out, try something new, stretch ourselves in an untried way? God may use whatever we have in our hands for His service, just as He used David’s ability to play the harp.

David: Sheppard, Victor, King, Sinner, Man After God, Author of many Psalms.

Psalm 23: This is a psalm of personal trust in God. The world could spare many a large book better than this sunny little Psalm. It has dried many tears, brought sleep on many sleepless nights, provided the words of life at many times of death, and given life a lift in life’s many down times. This Psalm not only provokes our thinking: it touches us way down deep below our philosophy and our theology.
